Ellie the Elephant in Prims

I am excited to tell you that my little Ellie the Elephant is in the new issue of PRIMS Magazine. Her pattern is in there, as well. I fell in love with this magazine from the first issue. It features wonderful creations and “art from a bygone era”. This new issue is extremely fabulous. Every single page features a really great creation. Don’t miss the story about my Soft in the Head Buddy, Pam Gracia. She’s into elephants this month, as well. I will be attempting to make the little chicks from the pattern included by Cathy Pendleton. Not only is Cathy a most talented designer but a very nice person which is reflected in her precious creations. You will not be disappointed if your purchase this magazine. It's a Wonderful Life

This is a time of year when I focus on memories of "Christmas Past". I think back to when I was a little girl and no matter where the US Navy sent us, my mom made Christmas so magical. My Dad and I had such fun shopping for her little gifts which she always pretended to love. My parents are gone now but my memories of our times together will last forever. My husband, Bert, and I are getting ready to share our 53 Christmas together, having married when we were students at the College of William and Mary. Our first Christmas was spent in our little 2 room apartment decorated with a Charlie Brown Tree. Over the years, our tree has grown as well as our family and our celebrations. Our three grown children are each married to wonderful people and they presented us with 4 fabulous grandchildren. Now we are ten. To Bert and me, Christmas is about family and home. There are a few grumblings about our Christmas Productions which can be over the top. I think one day, however, our children and grandchildren will reminisce on their happy Christmas memories as I do now.

I have discovered a very talented gal, Deena Davis, of www.EweNmePrintables.com Her site is full of wonderful printables to download and print. She, also, will convert a printed pattern to an e-pattern for a reasonable price and will even design the cover.Here is my new Folk Art Primitive Giraffe pattern must converted by Deena. the pattern is for sale in my e-Bay store but the first 5 people who make comments will get this pattern emailed to them free. Yes, I'm still trying to get folks to read my blog. Seems like not many people are interested.

Well, the answer to this deep question is: neither. One panda is my original and the other is a reproduction. I think that it’s time to announce that I was signed by Bethany Lowe Designs to reproduce my bears and hares. The signing actually occurred months ago but I have kept it quiet until I could see the product. I, now, have several bears, a hare and a Panda in the process of reproduction. They are coming along well. So which one is the original and which one is the repro? It has been 5 months since my last post. I honestly haven't had anything interesting to report. I do have some news now. One of my favorite magazines is Prims, a Stampington publication. I am proud to say that the brand new issue contains a primitive rabbit pattern by me. See the pictures here. This magazine is so much fun to read and has articles and works by so many fabulous artists. Several of my friends are included: Pam Gracia, Sharon Stevens and Nancy Malay. check out the magazine. Here are two little guys who have the blues...but in a good way. As promised, I am giving you a preview of what I will have for sale on September 10 on PFATT. (Primitive Folk Art Trinkets and Treasures...Wow that is a mouthful, No wonder they use initials.) I call these two, Lavender Blue and Dilly Dilly. Today must be July 10 as the new PFATT came out last night. (That would be Primitive Folk Art Trinkets and Treasures Marketplace for those of you who are initial challenged like I am. What is lol anyway?) But I digress. I just sat and enjoyed the many artist's listings while drinking my morning coffee. All of the artists are spectacular. My personal friends are Robin Seeber of Outside the Box; Nancy Malay; Folk Art Originals and Pam Gracia of Soft in the Head- don't you love that title? I do not know Wendy Meagher of Whendi's bears but I love her work and I think that you will, too. I have 2 patriotic bears listed as mentioned before and pictured in this blog somewhere. I think the little one is cute and so old looking. I, greatly, distressed him and stuffed him the old fashioned way with excelsior. What do you think? Thanks for stopping by.

I've designed many bears over the years, but my favorites are still USS TEDDY and his First Mate. They will always remind me of my early years traveling to the many ports that the US Navy sent my parents and me. My Dad and Mother are now both buried in Arlington National Cemetery where they will forever be a reminder of their patriotism to out country. Today, I would like to share with you part of an email that I received from one of my best friends from high school. (Norview High School, Class of 1956) Helen Heath Allsbrook writes: "Isn't it wonderful that we have the privilege of living in America where we can enjoy all the blessings living in freedom brings to us. Happy Independence Day. Have a happy and safe July 4th. Gob Bless America. Thanks to our troops, past and present and their families." Helen's words reflect my feelings, as well.

I was going to title this posting as, "Is anyone out there?" I was reluctant to start a blog as I couldn't imagine anyone being interested in what I have to say. I started it anyway and got a few followers but very few responses. I decided to keep the blog going for myself and should I pick up a few interested readers, so much the better. As we prepare for the 4th of July weekend, I am completing 2 mohair patriotic primitive bears. They will be listed for sale on PFATT on July 10. They even come with their own drums. I hope that you like them.

Panda, Poddle and Pug

It's been a busy month. I am developing new designs with a more primitive look. I have had fun making some critters using other artist's patterns, as well. This is so much easier than designing new guys.The April issue of PFATT Marketplace was just released. I have a Panda, Pug and Poodle listed. I think that they all sold on the first morning. I will try and give you a preview of next month's offerings. As soon as I know, you will know. My website is finally updated and I am thinking about giving it up. The Mid Atlantic Quilt show is now just a happy memory. I enjoyed seeing so many old friends and meeting many new ones, as well. I came home inspired by all the fabrics and designs that were featured at the show.One very talented artist, Vickie Clontz, shared a lovely old time bunny pattern with me. I made him up in pink wool felt as you can see here. Vickie is allowing me to sell her pattern in kit form and to sell the finished product, too.Check him out on Pfatt Marketplace Wednesday.

The March Hare

March 1 is almost here and I am thinking bunny rabbits. I am very excited about an on-line class that I will be taking from the well known artist, Nancy Malay.We will be making this adorable rabbit from paper clay. I have never used clay before and am looking forward to this new adventure. The class starts on Tuesday,March 2nd. There is so much excitement here in Norfolk, VA. We are finally getting a huge snow storm. We are expecting at least a foot of snow. My only problem is getting my Bull Dog, UGA, to get off the porch. I just received my March issue of Soft Dolls and Animals Magazine. The pattern for one of my historical rag dolls, the Golly Wog, is published in the issue. Golly and Teddy have a long history of friendship. My signature bears are US Navy Teddies. My Dad was a naval officer and my mom was a devoted Navy wife. We traveled a great deal. It was a wonderful life. My parents are both buried in Arlington National Cemetary. Here is my newest Navy Bear. She is quite large at 16" and fully jointed. She is made from distressed Schulte mohair and wears a midday blouse and skirt. She has a tag which is a copy of a World War II recruiting poster.She goes up for sale today on Arts a Flutter and on my web site.

Christmas is Coming

As the song goes, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Our family loves the holidays. We all believe in the magic of Christmas. It is a time for us to be together as much as possible. My studio becomes a workshop that would rival Santa's. Speaking of Santa, here is my new Christams bear. A New Heart for Valentines Day

I have had a very interesting few weeks. I had a sudden heart attack and had emergency heart surgery. I was fine one minute and gasping for breath the next. My beloved English Bull Dog, UGA, heard me gasping and began barking wildly until the rest of the family was alerted. The picture of my hero is posted. I was unable to have my usual booth last week at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt show but did teach my two bear making classes. A good time was had by everyone and all 40 students went home carrying a new mohair Teddy.

I promise to start showing off my new mohair bears, hares, elephants and puppies. Thanks for your time. Connie
